Brixington Primary School Pupils Explore Life on Exmouth Construction Site with 3West Property Developers
3West Property Developers were thrilled to welcome students from Brixington Primary School to one of their live construction sites last week. The visit, which included three classes from Years 2 and 3, gave the young learners a behind-the-scenes look at the exciting world of property development and construction.
The pupils were treated to a guided tour of the Goodmores site on Dinan Way, Exmouth, where they gained insights into various aspects of building new homes, with a strong focus on 3West’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility. From sustainable building materials to bat and bird boxes, the visit highlighted how new developments can positively impact both the community and the environment.
The inclusion of bird and bat boxes in the new builds is one of 3West’s key strategies for enhancing urban biodiversity. Bird boxes provide vital nesting sites for cavity-nesting species, helping to maintain and even increase populations of some rare or threatened birds. Bat boxes offer artificial roosts for bats, supporting the
conservation of these nocturnal creatures and maintaining a balanced urban ecology. Both measures demonstrate 3West’s commitment to creating homes not only for people but also for local wildlife.
The students also learned about the importance of health and safety on a construction site, particularly as many of them live nearby. The tour emphasised the need to stay safe around heavy machinery and the protective measures in place to ensure the well-being of both the workers and the surrounding community.
One of the highlights of the day came when the children were surprised with live demonstrations of the heavy machinery used on-site. The builders on hand showcased how different vehicles and equipment operate, giving the students a close-up view of the construction process in action.
“We believe it’s important to inspire the next generation and show them how modern construction works, particularly with a focus on building sustainable communities,” said Ian Edgcumbe, Site Manager at 3West. “The children were so engaged, and we hope this experience sparks some curiosity about the future of homebuilding and the role it plays in shaping a better tomorrow.”
Teachers and parents were equally enthusiastic about the visit. ”The staff and construction team worked so hard to give our children a wonderful tour of the Goodmores site. The children loved seeing the diggers at work, touching building materials, and wearing hard hats. The colouring competition where the children can
win tokens was a lovely touch. Thank you so much 3West and team!”
The event reflects 3West’s broader commitment to supporting the local community and championing projects that create a positive social impact, including its efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of new developments and engage with the younger generation.
