Goodmores, 3West Site Manager wins top award for house building quality

The South West’s best site managers have been recognised for achieving the highest standards in house building after winning the most highly regarded competition in the industry.

Organised by the National House Building Council (NHBC), the UK’s leading new homes warranty and insurance provider, the prestigious Pride in the Job Awards 2023, crowned Ian Edgcumbe of 3West its Regional AND Seal of Excellence winner for his work at Goodmores in the Small Builder category.

Held at Bristol on 8th September, 2023, the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2023 also celebrated 16 further site managers from across the region who were awarded an NHBC Pride in the Job Seal of Excellence after they gained a Quality Award in the first round of the competition in June.

Now in its 43rd year, judging for the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards is rigorous, with each site manager assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.

The flagship competition has three categories for different sized businesses: small, medium and large house builders, plus a multi-storey category where site managers are working on projects up to seven storeys for multiple occupancy and finally the high-rise category for multiple occupancy projects over seven storeys.

Commenting on the Awards, Steve Wood, Chief Executive, NHBC said: “For more than four decades, Pride in the Job has underpinned NHBC’s purpose of raising standards in house building.  The competition recognises the best site managers in the UK, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence.  We are celebrating the vital role site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards.

“NHBC’s Pride in the Job Awards are an important part of our work to help homeowners by driving improvements in construction quality.  We believe the calibre of the site manager and the way they inspire their site team have the greatest influence on the quality of the finished home. Winning site managers tell us it motivates them to give a little extra and to strive for ever-higher standards in the houses they build.

“Congratulations to all the 2023 Pride in the Job Regional and Seal of Excellence winners. They are an inspiration and should be very proud of the quality of new homes they are creating.”

A series of regional events are taking place throughout the UK to announce the Seal of Excellence and Regional Award winners and celebrate the achievements of the Quality Award recipients.

Ian will now go forward to compete for the ultimate prize in house building, the Pride in the Job Supreme Awards, which will be unveiled at a gala ceremony in London in January 2024.

Goodmores, Exmouth, is an official NHBC award winner!

The team at 3West have worked hard to prove they are the best in the business and are proud to announce their Site Manager, Ian Edgcumbe recently won the Quality Award in the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Jobs Awards 2023.

Running for 43 years, the accolade, which is awarded by the UK’s leading new homes warranty and insurance provider, is the most highly regarded in the house-building industry and a prestigious benchmark for exceptional site managers. With only 444 winners selected out of over 8,000 entrants across the UK, the recipients are among the country’s best house builders.

Judging for the awards is rigorous, with the current competition beginning in July last year. Each site manager is assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.

Thousands of site inspections and meticulous scoring and verifications have taken place to decide the winning site managers. Ian will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn, with the national Supreme Award winners unveiled in January 2024. “I’m over the moon to win this highly sought-after award and just goes to show the hard work myself and the team are putting into these new homes is paying off. I know it’s my name on the award, but it couldn’t have been achieved without a great team around me. The dedication and willingness to go above and beyond is never taken for granted – thank you” says Ian.

Goodmores is 3West’s first development in Exmouth, with new sites acquired in Lympstone, Clyst St Mary and Woodbury. All sites will be developed to the highest of standards and will provide gorgeous new homes to Devon families.

“We are committed to building great homes, in fantastic locations and putting customers at the heart of everything we do. Experience has shown us that they’re the things that matter most to customers, which means they’re the things that matter most to us.” Managing Director, Colin Palmer says. “As a privately owned company we can focus our time and attention on customer experience, supply chain and local communities. We are so lucky to have such an incredible team working hard to provide these much-needed homes. Congratulations to Ian and the team – we are so proud!”

Reasons why a new build is likely to be your ‘home sweet home’

Here’s our top five reasons why buying a new home versus an older is a wise choice.

  1. Peace of mind – New builds come with a number of protections in place including a standard 10-year structural NHBC Warranty, and in addition, some housebuilders offer additional reassurances. We also provide an additional two-year warranty.
  2. High-quality design and specification – our new homes are fitted with a range of high specification and modern features, thereby negating the need to allocate a pot of money for upgrades or repair work often associated with an older property. If reserved at the right point in the build cycle, homeowners may also be able to influence some aspects, such as the kitchen and bathroom.
  3. Energy efficiency – built with the most up-to-date features and materials, new homes are considerably more energy-efficient than older properties meaning energy bills can be up to 50% cheaper.
  4. Multiple ways to buy – many new homes can be purchased through a number of different schemes available which are exclusive to just new build properties – one example of this is the Help to Buy Equity Loan.
  5. Smoother and easier process – with no upward chain, purchasing a new build home is often a much easier process and we are committed to creating a reliable and excellent customer service experience, supporting our purchasers every step of the way.

It’s easy to see why new build homes are such a popular option – if you’re interested in living in beautiful East Devon, be sure to have a look at Goodmores, our scheme coming soon to Exmouth.
